pitter-patter
Some people love all things baby. They see a baby and the clutch themselves and just say "awww." Or upon seeing some fetal creature, they start talking to it in some sort of completely incomprehensible language. This language is not dependent on species. Some people will go "goo ga, ichee wah wah" to not just baby humans, but baby giraffes, baby elephants....hell, some people would probably even say it to baby staphylococcus aureus if they could see it. Usually, I'm not one of those people. Don't get me wrong, babies are cool. I mean props to anyone who actually goes through with having one. Plus the whole propagation of species thing is pretty important too. But, I mean, babies happen. It's a fact of life. Somtimes it's on purpose and sometimes people just got stuck in a snowstorm. HOWEVER one of the white rhinos here at DAK gave birth a few weeks ago to a baby boy named Tom. Now I'm a big fan of white rhinos. They're badass. They have that horn and inch thick skin, so no animal (aside from humans) will fuck with them. Plus they're cool about how tough they are and just do their thing without bein' all pretentious (elephants, I'm looking in your direction). So anyways, I like rhinos and this baby Tom has got to be the cutest damn thing I've ever seen. Note that I actually used the word cute, which is a word I don't throw around too often. I got a chance to see him up close and at 2 weeks, he's no bigger than a golden retriever. The keeper coaxed him to come close to the paddock and started rubbing his belly. Tom then rolled onto his back, just like a dog so the keeper could better rub his belly. Made me melt like a snowman in Maui. Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age.
