Hail to the King baby
Ok, so I got around to seein' King Kong last night. I went in expecting it to be good. I mean Peter Jackson directed it. While I'm not a big a fan as most people I know, I liked the Lord of the Rings and I figured the newly anorexic P.J. would do Kong justice. So yeah remember how all those Lord of the Rings movies were so long? yeah this was just as long. The original King Kong is about 100 minutes, but this redux version is over 3 hours. Same damn story plus and hour and a half. My ass started to hurt about an hour in....not a good sign. If you can't tell by now, I pretty much hated this movie. Don't get me wrong, as far as a special effect, Kong is about as impressive as you can get. The actors even did a decent job. While watching the movie, I couldn't help but think how pretentious the movie was and how a pretentious bastard must be behind it. While Peter Jackson's ass may have shrunk in size, his ego more than makes up for his once titanic posterior. I remember watching a web documentary a few months back on the making of King Kong. It opened with Peter Jackson saying, "Oh hello, I'm Peter Jackson, THE director of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy." I can't really capture how he said it in text, but believe me, he said it like a royal disgusted to lay eyes on the commoners....maybe it's just his accent. There was a lot of slow motion shots, which really didn't make much sense in the telling of the film. Like I said, Kong looked great, but all the other creatures looked poorly rendered. There's so many poorly rendered creatures that were there just for gross outs and cheap thrills that it just becomes ridiculous. It was overdone, it no longer was entertaining, it was just stupid. This was one of the most expensive movies ever made, a remake in fact. Mabye I'm being too harsh, but this movie epitomized how overblown and unoriginal Hollywood is becoming.
